The CHIPS Research Institute is made up of 6 sites:
A multidisciplinary (developmental psychology, clinical child psychology, community psychology, epidemiology, child psychiatry, education, sociology, and social work) consortium, CHIPS encompasses research on:
- the natural history of child disorder (ASU, OSLC, UP)
- prevention (ASU, JHU, OSLC)
- mental health services (JHU, UCLA, UCSD, UP)
Each site has a strong research infrastructure supported by a center, and a long track record in training postdoctoral fellows, graduate students, and junior faculty members to develop independent research careers. Collectively, these sites span the breadth of intervention, prevention, and services research and can thus promote the development of broader training perspectives in program participants better than any individual site can. Each site has scholars who are members of ethnic minorities and research that focuses on a wide range of ethnic minorities, and several sites have developed a special training emphasis for minority researchers.
